Session Abstract

The Norwegian Polar Institute welcomes everyone who is interested in science, climate change and the Arctic to attend the launch of a book about a unique scientific expedition to the Arctic. Meet the people who were on board, learn about the results and enjoy some stunning pictures taken while in the ice. The launch will take place at Verdensteatret, downtown Tromsø, on Wednesday 30 March 2022 at 18.30 pm. The book “Going with the floe” is the story about the Norwegian Polar Institute’s N-ICE2015 expedition, when the research vessel “Lance” was frozen into the ice at 83 °N – north of the archipelago of Svalbard. The aim was to gather data from the new, first-year Arctic sea ice pack from the winter period to the onset of summer melt. The scientists monitored the entire system of polar winter ice, ocean and atmosphere, and the living organisms found inside the ice and in the ocean. The expedition brought us a step closer to understanding the changes that are taking place right now.
