23 March 2024 | 10:30 - 12:30 (UK)

Open Session - HYBRID

Room: Prestonfield (JMCC)

Organiser: Millicent Harding (UKPN, DiPSI), Louise Mercer (UKPN, DiPSI), Pilvi Saarikoski (BAS, DiPSI), and Henry Burgess (NERC Arctic Office, DiPSI).

Event Description:

Underpinning the theme of equity we look at several organisations across the circumpolar Arctic as to how the principles of equitable research are applied and can be effectively implemented in a wide range of contexts. Speakers will share their work in short presentations to showcase the variety of initiatives currently taking place within Polar Science. A panel discussion will draw from diverse perspectives, cultures and career stages and will help to identify how we as an Arctic research community can make practical changes moving towards more equitable research practices. One of the goals of the IPY is to help drive major shifts toward working across knowledge systems - doing so requires structural changes. Recommendations will be drawn from the panel discussions which will contribute to the ICARP process, IPY, and a white paper. We encourage researchers from all career stages, community members and Indigenous experts to participate.
