21 March 2024 | 13:30 - 15:30 (UK)
Open Session - HYBRID
Room: Holyrood (JMCC)
Organiser: Anna Gebruk, Chloe Nunn, Saule Akhmetkaliyeva, Millicent Harding, Vicki Dutch (UKPN, United Kingdom)
Event Description:
The UK Polar Network (UKPN) was established in April 2007 as part of the 2007 – 2009 International Polar Year (IPY), and is the UK’s national committee for the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS). Currently having over 500 members, we are the key centre representing the UK’s early career polar scientists, and an influential organisation at the frontier of polar science within the nation’s polar-oriented community. As an entirely voluntary group, we organise career development events for early career scientists in addition to running education and outreach activities to enthuse and inspire young people about the polar regions.
The 2024 Town Hall meeting during the ASSW-2024 will bring current, previous and prospective UKPN members together to talk about our ongoing projects, challenges and opportunities for early career polar scientists.
Second hour of the session will include an open round-table panel discussion with APECS ExCom members about challenges and opportunities of ECR networks.
