24 March 2025 | 13:30 - 17:30 (MST)
Open Session - HYBRID
Room: UMC Fourth Floor - 415
Organiser: Allison Jaynes (University of Iowa, USA)
Event Description:
Polar regions are critical to geospace/space weather research, with significant energy from the Sun and solar wind entering the upper atmosphere there leading to aurora, currents that can couple to the ground, and many other phenomena. Likewise, geospace/space weather research is critical to broader polar research and people living in polar regions, with the potential for impacts on GPS positioning, power grid disruptions, satellite internet, upper atmosphere heating and ozone variations, and more. This business meeting will provide a forum to discuss the role(s) space weather/geospace research should play in IPY5 and IASC/Arctic research more broadly. Topics for discussion include: (1) connections between geospace research and current IASC working groups and cross-cutting activities, (2) possible future IASC working group or cross-cutting activity related to geospace research, (3) other ways to stimulate collaborations between the geospace research and broader Arctic research community leading up to IPY5.
