Workshop Description:
The ICARP IV Research Priority Team 5 (RPT 5) will hold its kick-off workshop on 25 and 26 March 2024:
- 25 March: Open Workshop (open to all ASSW 2024 participants)
- 26 March: Closed Workshop (open only to RPT 5 members)
RPT 5 has the topic Co-Production and Indigenous-led methodologies. It will address research priorities and their implementation regarding topics such as: co-production of knowledge; empowerment; capacity sharing; creating space and opportunities for Indigenous institutions / scholars to lead research and develop collaborations; Indigenous leadership; bringing education, science, and Indigenous knowledge together; producers and users of knowledge; and Indigenising Arctic research.
These worshops are a great opportunity for all ASSW 2024 participants to contribute to the ICARP IV process and support the work of the Research Priority Teams!
More information about the ICARP IV Process:
From 2022 to 2026, the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) in cooperation with many partners worldwide is coordinating an Arctic research planning process for the Fourth International Conference on Arctic Research Planning (ICARP IV). The ICARPs have been coordinated by IASC every 10 years since 1995.
ICARP IV engages Arctic researchers, Indigenous Peoples, policy makers, residents and stakeholders from around the world to discuss the state of Arctic science, the place the Arctic occupies in global affairs and systems to:
- considers the most urgent knowledge gaps and Arctic research priorities and needs for the next decade, and
- explores avenues to address these research needs.
Seven Research Priority Teams (RPTs) are convened between 2024 and 2025 that will work with with the input provided through the ICARP IV Community Engagement process to:
- define the knowledge gaps and research priorities for the next decade for their topic area based on the input collected, and
- Identify and suggest opportunities to enhance synergies that might exist across existing research plans, or where there is potential for formalising new alliances and collaborative partnerships.
Each team will start its work during a two-day kick-off workshop during ASSW 2024. The preliminary results of the Research Priority Teams work will be presented at the ICARP IV Summit / ASSW 2025 in Boulder, Colorado, USA (21 – 28 March 2025) and the final results of the ICARP IV process will be published in 2026.
