Open Session - HYBRID

Room: Mogens Zielerstuen

Organiser: Hyoung Chul Shin (Korea Polar Research Institute, Republic of Korea)

Session Description:

Understanding and living with high pace environmental changes in the Arctic require all available knowledges as well as interdisciplinary and integrated approach. In particular, the unprecedented landscapes and scenes now witnessed - that are the living conditions and habitats for Indigenous peoples - are calling for transitions and transformations in scientific methodology, and the need to link conventional modern science with the accumulated wisdom and adaptive capacities of Indigenous communities. This includes the Two-Eyed Seeing approach and the co-production of knowledge. Notably, during the ICARP IV priority-setting process, “co-production of knowledge and Indigenous-led methodologies” emerged as a central pillar, underscoring that the adoption of research methods developed with and by Indigenous partners will be essential for advancing ICARP IV goals. From non-Arctic, and furthermore Asian perspectives, we aim to consider and identify potential contributions and benefits from Arctic environmental and ecological research conducted in partnership with Indigenous communities, and explore avenues and pathways for joint research that can meaningfully contribute to achieving ICARP IV objectives.
