Session Description:
The new 10-year research programme Arctic Ocean 2050 will explore and understand the evolving dynamics of the Central Arctic Ocean as climate change now takes effect, generate knowledge-based scenarios of its possible future states and provide the foundation for development of sustainable policies for environmental protection, economic development, security and political stability in this region. The Arctic Ocean 2050 consortium consists of 18 Norwegian institutions wishing to establish strong and ambitious collaboration through international partnerships, throughout the programme duration, including during the International Polar Year. In the meeting at ASSW the project will meet with the International Advisory Board to discuss avenues for international collaboration on Arctic Ocean observations, science, and pan-Arctic knowledge-building towards the IPY.
