The Indigenous Pavilion at ASSW 2026 was a dedicated space for gathering, dialogue, and knowledge exchange throughout the conference.
Building on the Indigenous Pavilion initiative first established at ASSW 2025 in Boulder, CO, USA, the pavilion in Aarhus hosted a range of activities that foreground Indigenous perspectives, relational approaches, and alternative ways of sharing knowledge. The space was intended to complement the formal conference program by creating opportunities for conversation, reflection, and connection across disciplines, communities, and experiences.
This year's Indigenous Pavilion was made possible by joint efforts of the Indigenous-led Planning Committee, the Kingdom of Denmarkâs Chairship of the Arctic Council, International Arctic Science Committee - Standing Committee on Indigenous Involvement (IASC -SCII), and the National Science Foundation-funded projects Navigating the New Arctic Community Office (award # 2040729) and Frozen Commons: Change, Resilience and Sustainability in the Arctic (award #2127343). The pavilion was hosted in a Lavvu provided by Nomad Food Lab, drawing on Indigenous architectural traditions that emphasize circularity, hospitality, and shared presence. The setting supported both structured activities and more informal encounters, inviting participants to spend time, meet others, and engage in ongoing dialogue during the Summit.
