ASSW 2026 Programme
The Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2026 will be organised from 25 March - 1 April 2026 in Aarhus, Denmark by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and hosted by the University of Aarhus and the Forum for Arctic Research (FAF). It included three parts:
- ASSW 2026 Community Meetings and Workshops (25 - 29 March 2026): This part of ASSW 2026 includes meetings, workshops and other events of several Arctic organisations and projects. The entire Arctic community is encouraged to use ASSW 2026 as a venue for bringing together their organisations, collaborations, and teams. ASSW 2026 organisers will provide the logistical support and your meeting attendees only have to register for ASSW 2026 and show up. As ASSW 2026 will be organised as a hybrid conference, opportunities for on-site and online meetings will be offered during the conference. Meeting proposal can be submitted via the application form below. The application deadline is on 30 September 2025. A first draft program will be made available in November 2025. - ASSW 2026 Science Day "Arctic Observations" (29 March 2026): The day will open with a plenary keynote on the importance of Arctic observations and monitoring, followed by parallel sessions under the themes of the IASC Working Groups. Sessions will highlight research across the Arctic Terrestrial Environment, Arctic Marine Environment, Arctic Economic Politics, Arctic Atmosphere, Arctic Cryosphere, Arctic Human Health, and Arctic Societies and Governance. A defining feature of the 2026 Science Day is the emphasis on early career researchers: all oral presentations, apart from the keynote, will be delivered by ECRs. This ensures the programme elevates the perspectives and contributions of the next generation of Arctic researchers, including scientists, community members, and other knowledge holders. In the afternoon, the programme will feature a cross-disciplinary science session, bringing together insights from across the Working Group areas. The day will conclude with the presentation of the finalized ICARP IV report, marking a milestone for international Arctic research cooperation. The ASSW 2026 Science Day is hosted at Aarhus University, in the recently inaugurated Universitetsbyen Rotunda, providing a modern and collaborative setting for scientific exchange and public engagement.
- Arctic Observing Summit 2026 (30 March - 1 April 2026): The AOS is a biennial summit that serves as a platform for communication within the Arctic observing community. It brings together perspectives from across national and operational/research boundaries, and centers Indigenous priorities in the conversation. Working groups at the summit link regional Arctic observing efforts into global observing systems, provide community input into SAON initiatives, connect the broader observing community with data system efforts, and highlight areas of pressing need within the observing community. The AOS facilitates these conversations through a short statement and white paper process, and plenary and breakout sessions at the summit. Recommendations generated at the summit inform decisions from the project level to the Arctic Science Ministerial. Through the AOS, the Arctic observing community works together to build a more resilient, efficient, and equitable observing system.
