26 March 2024 | 11:30- 12:30 (UK)
Open Session - Onsite Only
Room: Pollock (St Leonard's)
Organisers: Dr Inga Beck, PEI
Event Description:
Polar Educators International (PEI) is an interdisciplinary network of educators, formed as an outcome of IPY 2007-2008.
Its mission is connecting polar research, education, and the global community.
The network is currently collaborating to update the IPY publıcatıon 'Polar Science and Global Climate: An International Resource for Education and Outreach (2010)', to create an online, interactive, and evolving version of what is commonly known as the Polar Resource Book (PRB). This partnership includes PEI, the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), and the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS). As we look forward to IPY2032-33, we are excited about future collaborations between polar scientists, educators, and entrepreneurs to co-produce new polar education, outreach, and communication resources.
It is time to update the PRB to reflect advances in polar research, emerging pedagogies, and the growth of collaboration between education and polar science over the past decade. Whether or not this vital publication can be implemented depends on the available funding. We proposed to launch a collaborative fundraising campaign at ASSW'24 and to raise enough funds to present the project at ICARP IV in 2025.
This important session aims to bring together everybody interested in the PRB to co-create the ambitious campaign and build a strategy to reach our fundraising goal.
We look forward to welcoming you on the 26th of March at ASSW, in the St Leonard's Hall (Pollock Room).
Together we can do it!
